Mangaluru: Village Accountant gets 4 years imprisonment for accepting bribe

Mangaluru: A village accountant was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for accepting bribes.
The accused, S. Mahesh, was convicted by the 3rd Additional District Sessions Court.
According to the charge sheet, Mahesh had demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 for the disposal of an application filed by Gopalakrishna of Sullia. Mahesh, who was then working as a village accountant, was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau police on June 7, 2016, while accepting Rs 45,000 in bribes.
After hearing the arguments in the case, Judge B B Jakati pronounced the judgment on March 2 and sentenced the accused to 4 years in prison and a fine of Rs 70,000 and additional 8 months of imprisonment in case the accused fails to pay the fine.
Karnataka Lokayukta Special Public Prosecutor Ravindra Munnipady argued on behalf of the State.
