Chitradurga: Veteran theatre artist Nadoja Belagallu Veeranna dies in car accident

Veteran theatre artist Nadoja Belagallu Veeranna died in a car accident near Hirehalli in Challakere taluk of Chitradurga district. He was 91.

Veeranna’s son Hanumanthappa, who was in the car, was injured in the accident and has been admitted to the hospital.

Well-known artist Veeranna gave a new touch to a much-neglected folk art called “THOGALU GOMBE AATA”.

He has been awarded many prestigious state and national awards. Rajyotsava Prashasti, Karnataka Nataka Academy award, Janpada and Yakshagana Academy award, Janapada Shri award for his lifetime achievement from the Karnataka state government.

He was awarded ‘Kendra Sangeet Natak academy award for the year 2011, by the government of India.  In 2013, he was awarded ‘Nadoja’ an honorary doctorate from Hampi Kannada University, Karnataka.
