Mangaluru: A man allegedly duped a woman in parting with her gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakhs on the pretext of finding her an accommodation. A case in this regard has been lodge at Mangaluru North station.

The victim, Athica who stays in a rented premises came across the accused, who identified himself as Rasheed near the Thokkottu railway line. The accused later visited Athica’s house and talked her into finding an alternative accommodation citing the high rent that she was paying for the house she was staying in.

Rasheed gave Athica his mobile number and told her to meet him the next day afternoon at the Bunder Mosque.

Athica went to the mosque on March 27 where she met Rasheed who then took her to a hotel in Falnir and told her that a Sheikk’s wife will visit them there and that she would help Athica financially. Rasheed however told Athica that the Sheikh’s wife may reconsider the financial help if she noticed the gold jewellery worn by her.

He thus talked Athica into handing him the jewellery and asked her to wait while he brought the Sheikh’s wife.

However when he did not return, Athica realised that she had been cheated.
