Ullal: Fishing nets of several country boat fishermen were gutted in a fire near Rudrapade on the shores of Someshwara beach. The estimated loss from the incident is believed to be over Rs 15 lakh.

The affected fishermen include Hemant Uchila, Santosh Uchila, Sadhana Uchila, Shekhar Someshwara, and Yogesh Someshwara.

The incident reportedly occurred on a harsh sunny day, leading to doubts about whether it was a result of the weather or a deliberate arson by miscreants.

This is not the first such incident to occur in the area, as in March last year, two country boats and a fishing net were destroyed in a similar fire, causing losses of lakhs of rupees.

Local BJP leader Sathish Kumpala visited the site of the incident and called on authorities to provide compensation to the affected fishermen as soon as possible.

A case has been registered at the Ullal police station in connection with the incident.
