Udupi: The Congress party’s KPCC president DK Shivakumar has accused the BJP-led central and state governments of failing to bring about any change in the lives of the people. Speaking at a public meeting in Ajjarkadu, Shivakumar alleged that the BJP government in the state had not fulfilled its promises of providing subsidies for diesel to fishermen, doubling the income of farmers, nor wiping away the tears of the poor.

Shivakumar urged voters to elect Congress candidate Prasad Raj Kanchan in the upcoming election, saying that the Congress government would come to power in the state. He also highlighted the need for clean governance and the party’s fight against corruption.

Udupi Congress candidate Prasad Raj Kanchan led a padayatra from the city bus stand to the public meeting, which was attended by Congress leaders including former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and district president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor.

Shivakumar also announced the party’s plans for the coastal region, including the establishment of corporations for coastal development and associations for the upliftment of various sections of society, including fishermen and youth.

In his speech, Shivakumar praised Udupi’s education system and emphasized the need for an educated candidate who can create jobs. He called on the “enlightened voters” of Udupi to support Kanchan and the Congress party.

Congress leader K Krishnamurthy Acharya, who planned to contest as an independent candidate, withdrew his nomination papers and publicly announced his support for Kanchan at the meeting.

The public meeting was attended by a large number of people, including party workers and supporters. The Congress leaders present at the meeting expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the upcoming election.
