Kaup: Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Uchila in the Kaup constituency on Thursday, said Vinay Kumar Sorake, the Congress candidate from the Kaup segment.
Gandhi will participate in an interaction programme with fishermen at the Shalini G Shankar Auditorium, where he will listen to the hardships and losses faced by the fishing community, he said. The event is expected to draw around 2,000 fishermen from Kapu, Byndoor, Kundapur, Udupi, and Mangaluru.
Gandhi will arrive in Kaup Constituency at around 3.40 PM and will participate in a roadshow at Katapadi and Uchila, followed by a visit to the Uchila Mahalakshmi Temple.
Sorake criticized the BJP government for not responding to the plight of the fishermen community, stating that the previous Congress government had been continuously providing kerosene subsidies to fishermen. However, he added that for the past six months, fishermen have not been able to obtain kerosene subsidies. Sorake accused the BJP government of attempting to suppress the fishing community by “spreading lies” for the sake of votes.
Congress leaders Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Naveen Chandra Suvarna, Naveen Chandra J Shetty, T. Prathapan, Devi Prasad Shetty, Rajashekhar Kotian, Wilson Rodrigues, Manjunath B Sonegar, Harish Kini, Rameez Hussain, Abdul Gafoor, Jeetendra Futardo, Shantala, Sharfuddin Sheikh, Vishwas Amin, Dinesh Kotian, and Ameer were present at the press conference held at Kapu Rajiv Bhavan to announce Gandhi’s visit.
