Illegal beef transportation: Pickup truck driver flees abandoning vehicle

Team Udayavani, Apr 30, 2023, 1:36 PM IST

A pickup truck suspected of carrying illegal beef broke through a police stop sign and crashed into a barricade and fled the scene at the Atoor checkpoint near Ramakunja on Saturday afternoon.

As the driver fled the scene, police personnel had to move out of the way to avoid being hit. However, pro-Hindu activists gave chase, eventually forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle at Sharada Nagar in Golittadi and flee on foot.

Eyewitnesses allege that the illegal beef being transported was shifted to another vehicle during the escape.

The driver has been identified as Basheer.

The authorities have confiscated the pickup truck and registered a case against the driver.
