Mangaluru: Group assaults transgender woman, case filed

Mangaluru: A transgender woman was reportedly physically assaulted by a group of youths in the city. The incident happened on the night of April 30 near Kuntikana.

According to a complaint filed at the Urwa police station, the victim, identified as Shanti was assaulted by 4 youths. The youth not only verbally abused her but also hit her with stones and plastic pipes.

The group fled the spot after noticing a car coming their way. It was later found that Rs 6,000 cash kept in Shanti’s bag was missing, the complaint alleged.

Aishwarya, another member of the transgender community, took an injured Shanti to a hospital for treatment.

A case has been registered at the Urwa police station.
