Mangaluru: Cyber fraudsters fleece nearly Rs 1L by threatening to make private video viral

Mangaluru: A man was coerced into transferring Rs 96,450 by threatening to make a private video viral on social media.

According to the complaint filed at the CEN police station here, the victim was introduced to Nisha Aggarwal on an online dating site on April 30.

After exchanging WhatsApp numbers, Aggarwal made a video call to the victim and showed him her explicit video. She also coaxed him into doing the same.

Later, she threatened to make the private video viral on social media and demanded money. The victim transferred Rs 15,000 to Aggarwal’s account as per her demand.

Later, a man claiming to be Pramod Rathore claiming to be from Delhi Police Cyber Cell called the victim and promised to help. Another person named Sanjay Singh also called the victim claiming to be from YouTube customer care, and promised to delete the obscene video. Believing these claims, the victim transferred a total of Rs 96,450 to various accounts.

The victim has filed a complaint with the police, demanding action against the unknown persons who had transferred the money. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
