BMTC crack down: Rs 26,800 collected from male passengers occupying women’s reserved seats

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) investigation teams recovered a fine of Rs 26,800 from 268 male passengers who were found occupying seats designated for women passengers.

BMTC has also registered cases under Sections 177 and 94 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 against the rule violators.

In the month of April, the investigation teams carried out extensive checks on BMTC vehicles operating throughout the city, leading to the recovery of a substantial sum of Rs 6,56,740 as fines for various infractions. Additionally,  1,340 cases have been registered against the bus staff for violations, senior BMTC officials said.

During the inspections conducted on 14,670 trips, it was found that 3,382 individuals were traveling without valid tickets. In all, fines totaling Rs 6,83,540 were collected from 3,650 passengers in April, the officials added.
