Mangaluru: MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath, on Friday, criticized the state government’s decision to halt the release of funds and payments related to development works approved during the previous BJP government. He expressed deep concern over the negative impact this decision would have on public welfare and development projects in the region.

Kamath issued a press release condemning the government’s move. “The urgent developmental works currently underway will be affected due to this order issued by the government for political reasons, and the public will have to suffer severe problems,” he said.

As the monsoon season has already commenced, several public works need to be completed urgently to prevent the heavy rains from causing misery to the residents. Critical projects, such as drinking water works, barrier constructions for rajakaluve, drainage systems, and ongoing smart city initiatives. However, these projects now face a standstill due to the government’s order, he added.

Calling the move to be “politically motivated”, MLA Kamath said the ruling party was “prioritizing political grudges over public welfare.” He demanded an immediate withdrawal of the order, asserting that no government should hinder development and inflict hardship on the public due to “political enmity.”
