Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, New and Renewable Energy Bhagwant Khooba will lay the foundation stone for the much-anticipated Plastic Park in June.
The announcement was made by Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, who revealed that the Coast Guard Training Center would also have its foundation stone laid during the same occasion.
During a meeting convened on Saturday to review the progress of the ongoing works at Ganjimutt’s plastic park and address the concerns of the local population, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel shared insights.
He highlighted that the plastic park project was conceived in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a vision to prioritize entrepreneurship, foster skill development, and encourage indigenous entrepreneurs as part of the “Make in India” initiative. The demand for the park was raised by the then Union Minister Ananth Kumar during his visit to Mangalore, emphasizing the need for contributions to the region.
Additionally, efforts are underway to establish a Coast Guard Training Center in Mangalore. Supplementary works are currently in progress, with the government allocating Rs 250 crore for the construction of a fishing jetty in Kulaç. The commencement of work on the fishing jetty marks the initiation of the coastal guard-related projects, including the plastic park and Coast Guard Training Center, in the constituency of MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty.
The Plastic Park, covering an expansive area of 60 acres in Ganjimutt, will house various plastic-based industries, warehouses, and research facilities. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) is entrusted with the implementation of this project, with 39 entrepreneurs having already expressed their interest. According to Engineer Ganapathy from KIADB, a total of 96 acres of land will be required for the overall development.
