Mangaluru: In a bid to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety, the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate has introduced a new initiative aimed at curbing instances of Moral policing.
Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain said that the city police have successfully identified all individuals involved in instances of “moral policing” within the city limits over the past five years. To ensure accountability, the police will obtain indemnity bonds from these individuals for a duration of one year.
Under the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 107 and 110, preventive cases will be filed against the suspects. In the event of any breach of peace during the bond period, the offenders will be required to pay fines.
in response to the recent “moral policing” incident at Someshwar, Commissioner Kumar revealed that said that all seven individuals arrested in connection with the case have been remanded in judicial custody until June 14. The report concerning the involvement of a minor has been submitted to the Juvenile Justice Board for further action.
Last year alone, a total of 9 individuals failed to comply with the conditions of their bail, resulting in a forfeiture of 1.90 lakhs. The Commissioner confirmed that the forfeited bond amount had been handed over to the government treasury.
Furthermore, the city Police Commissionerate has taken decisive action against rowdy elements within the community. Over the past year, 62 individuals with a history of disruptive behavior, commonly referred to as “rowdy sheeters,” have been deported from the jurisdiction under continuous monitoring. Mangaluru has witnessed a higher number of deportations in comparison to other regions of the state.
