The state government has issued an order outlining the guidelines for the ‘Shakti Yojana,’ a scheme introduced by the Siddaramaiah government to provide free travel for women within the state.
Under the scheme, women are advised to obtain ‘Shakti Smart Cards’ to avail themselves of the benefits of free travel. However, it is important to note that the scheme is applicable for intra-state travel only.
Luxury buses such as Rajahansa, Non AC Sleeper, Vayuvajra, Airavata, Airavata Club Class, Airavata Gold Class, Ambari, Ambari Dream Class, Ambari Utsav, Fly Bus, and EV Power Plus buses are not included in the scheme.
As part of the initiative, 50% of the seats in buses, excluding those operated by BMTC, AC, luxury, and inter-state buses, will be reserved for men.
To obtain the ‘Shakti Smart Cards’ for free travel, women are required to apply through Seva Sindhu. The application process will be available for the next three months.
Until the ‘Shakti Smart Cards’ are obtained, women can utilize their identity cards issued by the Government of India or the Government of Karnataka, which include a photograph and residential address.
