Mangaluru: Medical student falls victim to prize scam; loses Rs 98,000

A medical student has become the victim of a prize scam after receiving a call from an unknown number, leading to a case being registered against the fraudster.
The student received a call from the number 7794013522, where the caller informed him that she had won an iPhone Pro-12.
The fraudulent individual then insisted that in order to receive the prize, the student would need to pay the applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST). Falling for the ruse, the student proceeded to make a series of payments amounting to a total of Rs 98,972 via Google Pay, as instructed by the caller.
However, later she realised that she has been duped and filed a police complaint.
