Bengaluru: Following the death of a schoolgirl after falling down from an NWKRTC bus in Haveri district, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has issued passenger safety guidelines.
The victim, Madhu, aged 14, was on her way to school when the incident took place. As the bus was crowded Madhu was standing on the rear footboard. She died of injuries sustained after she fell down from the bus.
Expressing anguish over the death of the schoolgirl, Karnataka State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that necessary measures have to be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
The guidelines are as below:
- The crew should ensure that the doors of the bus are in good condition and fully functional before leaving departing from the depots
- The drivers will resume the bus journey only after getting a signal from the conductor after ensuring that the front and rear doors are closed.
- Passengers must not be allowed to travel on the footboard of the bus
- The doors should be opened for passengers only when the bus reaches the designated bus stand.
