Hebri: In a tragic incident, one person was killed in a serial road accident involving an Eicher vehicle, a tipper lorry, and several cars near Sitanadi Jakkanamaki on the Hebri-Agumbe National Highway on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as the Eicher driver, Balakrishna (58), a native of Koppa.

At around 7 pm on Saturday, the Eicher en route from Agumbe crashed into the tipper lorry. Several cars behind the tipper lory also collided with each other, thus causing traffic disruption on the highway.

The front portion of the Eicher was completely crushed, pinning the driver. Rescuers, including police and locals, struggled to extricate him. Heavy rains also hampered rescue operations.

A case has been registered at Hebri police station in this regard.

Sources said the accident spot was on a narrow and steep section of the highway. Two people had died at the same spot in an accident that occurred last week, they added.
