Mangaluru: Resident loses Rs 4.8L in foreign job scam

Mangaluru: A resident was cheated of nearly Rs 5 lakhs by a fraudster with a promise to secure employment in Canada.
According to the complaint filed by the aggrieved person at the CEN police station, the victim first came into contact with the fraudster through Instagram on March 28.
The fraudster introduced himself as William Paul Anthony, a Canadian citizen who worked as an immigration officer. Thereafter, he remained in constant touch with the victim through WhatsApp, seeking various documents to facilitate job recruitment and immigration.
Between March 28 and June 9, the fraudster coerced him into paying Rs 4.8 lakhs. However, the promised job never materialized.
A case has been registered at the CEN police station in Mangaluru.
