Bengaluru: The distribution of eggs and bananas to school children under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Abhiyan program has been altered.
As per a circular issued by the Director of the Mid-day meal scheme, the government has instructed the distribution of boiled eggs or banana/peanut chickies as supplementary nutritious food to students from classes 1 to 8 in government and aided schools across all districts of the state.
Under the revised guidelines, the previously provided eggs or bananas, which were given two days a week, will now be limited to only one day in addition to the midday meal.
The circular specifies that the distribution of eggs will be continued based on the children’s attendance in the first phase from June 20 to July 15, allowing one egg per student per week until further orders from the government.
The current distribution of eggs is being conducted according to the grant received by the department. However, it is expected that the forthcoming budget announcement on June 7 by the new government will determine any changes in the allocation and distribution of eggs. The department sources have indicated that after the budget decision is made, the distribution of eggs will be carried out accordingly.
