Accused sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in POCSO case for abusing stepdaughter

Mangaluru: A POCSO court in the city, sentenced an accused to 20 years imprisonment in connection with the case of sexually harassing and threatening his minor step-daughter.
The Additional District and Sessions Court and the 2nd Fast Tract POCSO court guilty verdict against the accused, Ashwath.
The incident happened on June 26, 2022, at around 3.30 am, when the wife of the accused had been to the hospital for childbirth. It was accused that Ashwath raped his minor stepdaughter and issued death threats to silence her.
The girl later informed her mother about her ordeal, following which a complaint was filed at the Women’s Police Station in Mangaluru.
Police registered a case under sections 376, 323, and 506 of IPC and section 6 of the POCSO Act 2012. After an investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the accused.
After examining the witnesses and the evidence, the court sentenced Ashwath to 20 years in prison for the crime.
Special public prosecutor C. Venkataramana Swamy argued for the prosecution.
