Hotelier Anand Poojary delivers delectable vegetarian fare to PM Modi during US visit

Washington DC: Anand Poojary, a prominent hotel entrepreneur and resident of Washington DC, undertook the responsibility of providing vegetarian cuisine to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent three-day visit to the United States.
This marked the fifth occasion on which Anand Poojary was entrusted with the honor of catering for PM Modi’s dietary requirements.
Anand Poojary, along with his wife Sumita, has been residing in Washington DC for the past 35 years while managing the renowned Woodland Hotel. The hotel, conveniently situated in the heart of Washington DC.
As 2023 has been declared the International Year of Siri Dhanya, the dinner arrangements for PM Modi’s visit featured a delectable spread of dishes, prominently including the famous “bisi bele baath” prepared with a variety of pulses. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi’s preferred dishes such as Gujarati-style kichdi, dhokla, and a selection of raw or boiled fresh vegetables and fruits were thoughtfully provided. The menu also included South Indian delicacies like idli with chutney and vada served with sambar.
Interestingly, it has been learned that Prime Minister Modi personally instructed Anand Poojary not to go through the trouble of procuring vegetables from India, as he expressed a willingness to try locally-sourced produce unfamiliar to him. This decision showcased PM Modi’s openness to exploring new culinary experiences while highlighting his trust in Anand Poojary’s expertise in providing an authentic taste of Indian cuisine.
Anand Poojary, the son of Badiya Poojary and Girija, hails from the Kallangady Mane in the Aloor village of the taluk. Over the years, he has built a stellar reputation for his impeccable service and culinary skills, earning him the esteemed privilege of catering to Indian dignitaries during their visits to the United States.
