Vijayapura: Tensions within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the forefront as a scuffle broke out between supporters of BJP MP Ramesh Jigajinagi and MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal during a district-level workers’ meeting of the party.
The incident occurred in the presence of former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and several other prominent leaders from the state, who remained a mute spectators as chaos unfolded.
The ruckus took place at the Sanganabasava Kalyana Mantapa on Lingadagudi Road in the city on Monday. Despite police intervention, the activists involved in the scuffle continued their uproar, causing several leaders, including MP Ramesh Jigajinagi, to walk out of the meeting in frustration.
The trouble began when corporators and supporters of MLA Yatnal began chanting slogans in support of their preferred candidate, causing a sudden commotion in the gathering. Meanwhile, former minister Shashikala Jolle voiced her demand for MP Ramesh Jigajinagi to be elected for the fourth term and sent to Parliament.
This prompted Yatnal’s supporters to intensify their slogans in favor of the MLA. In the midst of the chaos, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai chose not to intervene and remained a mere spectator.
Following Jigajinagi’s exit, several other leaders present on the dais, including former minister Murugesh Nirani, former MLA A S Patil Nadahalli, and Vijugouda Patil, among others, decided to follow suit.
