Sea erosion intensifies at Kadipatna in Padubidri

In Padubidri Kadipatna, the recent heavy rain and strong winds have intensified the severity of sea erosion near Shankar Amin’s residence. The impact of this erosion has already caused the uprooting of four coconut trees and an electric pole which were part of the ongoing Padubidri beach development works.

The affected area spans approximately 50 meters. It is alleged that the construction of sea barrier between Padubidri main beach and Kadipatn was canceled due to a request by a private individual. This has resulted in the intensification of the erosion, locals alleged.

Expressing disappointment, KPCC Co-ordinator and former Taulk Panchayat member Navinchandra J. Shetty highlighted that the government has not fulfilled its payment obligations to the contractor responsible for the barrier works completed over the past two to three years.

Meanwhile, Kapu MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty is currently in Bengaluru participating in the budget session and could not be reached for comment.

The situation prompted a visit by Padubidri Village Accountant Mathai P. M. and village assistant Jayarama to assess the damage. Kapu Tehsildar Shrinivas Murthy personally inspected the site and, based on the village accountants’ report, reached out to the officials from the port and fisheries department. Urgent action has been suggested to address the pressing issues in the affected area.
