Surathkal: One dead after stepping on snapped electric wire

Surathkal: One person was electrocuted to death on Wednesday morning after coming into contact with an electric wire that snapped due to the strong winds of the previous night.

The deceased has been identified as Santhosh.

The overhead electric wires reportedly got snapped in the Kulai area due to the strong winds at around midnight on Tuesday. In the morning, Santhosh was on his way to work in the industrial area when he accidentally stepped on loose electric wires and was electrocuted to death.

In another incident, a tree was uprooted by the surface winds at the residence of  Narayana Moolya. Some of the branches got stuck to the overhead electric cables averting tragedy. Mescom personnel have reached the spot and are carrying out repairs.

The strong winds also wreaked havoc in the area. Roof sheets of several houses were blown off by the gale.
