Udupi: Ex-govt employee convicted disproportionate assets case

A former government official was sentenced to one-year imprisonment and a fine in a disproportionate assets case.

The District Sessions Court convicted the retired government official named Abdul Azeez for possessing property that exceeds his known sources of income.

The accused, who was previously employed as the Kundapura Zonal Forest Officer, was suspected of accumulating wealth beyond his legitimate means.

The case was initiated by Police Inspector K U Belliappa, who gathered information and filed a police complaint against Abdul Azeez.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Mangaluru Division’s Superintendent of Police, Dharmaraj A G, registered a case. After obtaining a search warrant from the Udupi District Sessions Court, the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Udupi conducted a search of Abdul Azeez’s residence and bank locker.

Thereafter, Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police Prabhudeva B Mane conducted a thorough investigation into the case. Subsequently, a chargesheet was filed in court against Abdul Azeez.

After carefully reviewing the case, District Sessions Court Judge Shantaveera Shivappa found Abdul Azeez guilty and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment. Additionally, a fine of Rs 1 lac was imposed on him under Section 13(1)(e) and 13(2) of the IPC Act 1988.

Special Public Prosecutor T Vijay Kumar Shetty argued the case on behalf of the State.
