Amarnath Yatra: Pilgrims from DK and Udupi reported safe

The annual Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to a landslide caused by heavy rains. The road leading to the Amarnath temple has been completely blocked at Rambhan, leaving pilgrims stranded and unable to proceed further.

Meanwhile, a group of 20 pilgrims, hailing from different taluks of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, who were undertaking the pilgrimage, have sought refuge in a CRPF camp and are reported to be safe.

Santhosh, the leader of the group from Narikombu village in Bantwal taluk, confirmed that all 20 pilgrims, including himself, have reached the CRPF camp unharmed and are being taken care of. This news brings relief to their families and loved ones who were concerned about their well-being.

Considering the possibility of further landslides, authorities have halted the yatra and urged all pilgrims to exercise caution. Efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and restore access to the Amarnath temple. However, until the situation stabilizes, pilgrims are advised to refrain from attempting the pilgrimage, he said.

Santhosh Narikombu, who commenced the yatra on July 4, had planned to proceed to Jammu and Kashmir after visiting the Amarnath temple. He intends to undertake the Vaishnodevi yatra subsequently.

Man on solo pilgrimage marks himself safe

In a recent video message, Abhilash, a resident of Bolantoor who is participating in the pilgrimage alone, provided an update on his safety during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. He confirmed that he is currently staying at the Purani Mandi Ashram about 280 km from the Amarnath Cave shrine and assured everyone that he has not encountered any issues during his solo journey.

He expressed his readiness to visit the temple and seek blessings as soon as the military authorities grant permission for the pilgrimage to resume. He intends to complete his darshan and return safely.

He also said that all essential facilities, including food and accommodation, are being provided free of charge at the camp where he is staying.
