Mangaluru: One more person arrested in Aikala house burglary case

Mangaluru: CCB Police arrested another accused in the case related to a burglary at a house in Aikala.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Sharief (40), a resident of Bondathila in Mangaluru. He acted as an accomplice to the main culprits in carrying out the theft, police said.

The incident, which occurred between 18:30 on 15th January 2023 and 09:00 on 16th January 2023, saw thieves breaking into the residence of  Aikala Harish Shetty at Guttakadu in Thalipadi village, Mangaluru taluk. The burglars made off with gold ornaments, silver ornaments, and cash from the premises.

A formal complaint was lodged at Mulki police station, which subsequently handed over the investigation to the CCB.

Following an extensive investigation, the CCB managed to apprehend two individuals linked to the crime prior to Shareef’s arrest. The authorities had already seized stolen gold ornaments worth an estimated Rs 56,50,000, as well as mobile phones and other assets.

Police recovered a gold pendant and a mobile phone from Shrief’s possession, both suspected to be part of the stolen items from Aikala Harish Shetty’s residence. The accused has been produced before the honorable court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody, police said.

Several other individuals are also involved in the burglary case, and efforts to locate and apprehend them are ongoing, police added.
