In the wake of a recent police raid on Manohar Shet’s shop at Car Street, where chocolates laced with a drug substance were confiscated, a relative of Shet, identified as Manoj Nayak, has come forward to apologize for the controversial statements made by Manohar Shet against a temple and renowned yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
The incident came to light after the police discovered that the chocolates seized during the raid were infused with ‘Bhang,’ an edible preparation derived from the leaves of the cannabis plant. Following the discovery, Shet had spoken to the media, suggesting that consuming ‘Bhang’ was a ritual during the rathotsav celebration at Car Street, and even made claims about Baba Ramdev’s plans to legalize the substance in the country.
Addressing the media on Monday, July 24, Manoj Nayak expressed support for the police commissioner’s efforts to make the city drug-free, acknowledging that the confiscated chocolates were sent for analysis to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine the appropriate course of action. He stated that they had no objections to any legal action taken by the police based on the FSL report.
Furthermore, Nayak tendered an apology to the temple administration and Baba Ramdev on behalf of Manohar Shet, urging the public not to take Shet’s previous statements seriously.
Nayak revealed that Shet had been diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago and had undergone surgery. As a result of his medical condition, Shet was not fully aware of his statements, and doctors had recommended he remain at home for a period of two years. Despite this, Shet’s family allowed him to spend a brief time at the shop to help him feel more at ease.
In a separate instance, Manohar Shet himself issued an apology for the statements he had made in the media, acknowledging the impact of his medical condition on his remarks.
