Udupi: Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan accused the BJP of attempting to “create communal tensions” and obstructing the police’s duty during protests in connection with the case of college students videographing in the washroom.

While the Congress leader emphasized that whoever is found guilty in the case should be punished according to the law, he also criticized the BJP for taking to the streets and protesting prematurely. “The BJP is trying to make it big,” he stated during a press conference, questioning the need for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the BJP, to hold protests.

Prasad Raj Kanchan pointed out that no officers from the district police department have been transferred since the Congress government assumed power two-and-a-half months ago. He accused the BJP of lacking faith in the ongoing investigation and attempting to discredit the police. “Why don’t you have the patience to wait for the investigation report to come?” he asked.

He further criticized the BJP for allegedly diverting attention from the case and trying to create communal tensions instead, adding that the local MLAs were behaving inappropriately.

Likewise, Block Congress president Ramesh Kanchan also accused the BJP of lacking faith in the police investigation and suggested that they were obstructing justice for the students involved. “They don’t want students to get justice. They are spreading low-level propaganda and protesting to boost their personal image,” he remarked.

NSUI district president Saurabh Ballal and other party leaders including Kushal Shetty, Sadashiva Poojary, Suresh Shetty, and Prashanth Poojary were present.
