4 killed as car plunges into canal near Srirangapatna

Srirangapatna: Four persons met a tragic end after a car they were travelling in plunged into the VC Canal near Gamanahalli on Saturday night.

The accident took place in the Arakere police station limits, on the border area of Srirangapatna.

The car was on its way to Bannur from Gamanahalli when it fell into the channel. Police sources said that three women including a girl were among the dead.

The deceased were later identified as Mahadevamma, Rekha, Sanjana and Mamata of Dornahalli village of Malavalli taluk. The car driver, identified as Manoj, was seriously injured and being treated at a hospital.

Areker police visited the accident spot and are investigating.

According to locals, in another recent accident, a car had fallen into the VC canal, killing one person.
