Mangaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ruled out a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation into the washroom video incident at a college in Udupi, stating that the police have already filed a suo moto case.
Speaking to the media during his visit to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to assess the damage caused by heavy rains in July, Siddaramaiah emphasized that the ongoing investigation by a DySP should be allowed to conclude first.
The CM’s remarks came amidst growing concerns over moral policing cases in the district. He assured strict action against anyone involved in such activities and urged the police not to show any leniency.
Addressing the incident in the college washroom, Siddaramaiah referred to the National Women’s Commission representative’s statement, affirming that no hidden camera was found in the facility. He asserted that once the investigation report is published, further discussions on the matter can take place.
Refuting the need for an SIT probe, he cited the home minister’s suggestion that the incident could have been a prank by students.
Regarding the Soujanya case, which was previously handed over to the CBI and is currently in court, Siddaramaiah mentioned that the parents of the victim have appealed for a re-investigation. He stated that he would review the CBI court judgment to determine if there is a possibility of an appeal, adding that the parents have provided him with a copy of the judgment.
Turning to the issue of false information being spread on social media, the Chief Minister assured strict action against those involved in such activities. He clarified that constructive criticism would not face repercussions, but false news and personal attacks would not be entertained.
