A person in Mangaluru fell prey to a cunning scam and lost a staggering amount of Rs 90,400 under the pretense of winning a lottery prize worth Rs 14.99 lakh through a scratch coupon.
The victim received a phone call from an individual identifying himself as Deepak Pandey. The caller claimed to represent a government-recognized company that conducted a mega draw coupon scheme. On June 10, the victim was delighted to receive a scratch coupon, which upon being scratched, revealed that he had apparently won an astonishing Rs 14.99 lakh.
Eager to claim the purported prize, the victim promptly contacted the helpline number provided on the scratch card. The person who answered the call, affirming the victim’s win, instructed that certain fees needed to be paid to process the prize money. Trusting the caller’s words, the victim followed their instructions, and as a consequence, a total of Rs 90,400 was transferred from the victim’s account in several phases.
However, it was later discovered that it was a deceitful scheme orchestrated to swindle money from people.
