Bengaluru: Baiyappanahalli police arrested an engineer turned thief and confiscated 512 grams of gold jewelry worth Rs 29 lakhs from his possession here.
The accused Mahamani (37), a native of Tamil Nadu and a graduate of Electronics Engineering (BE), had been working at the Nokia company in Chennai. He was however fired from his job in the year 2019 and was unable to find any other employment.
An unemployed Mahamani thus took to theft and would conduct a recce of the nearby areas to identify locked houses, police said. In the night he would gain entry into these houses by breaking open the door with an iron rod and would flee with the valuables.
Police said that the accused was involved in several theft cases and has cases registered against him at various stations of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
