Karkala: Four cows were rescued by locals and police from an abandoned scorpio vehicle at Mudaru near Bajagoli here on the night of August 6.

The cattle were found to be inhumanely crammed in the vehicle. It is suspected to be a case of illegal cattle transportation.

It is gathered that the Scorpio vehicle was involved in an accident. The vehicle had collided with a pickup vehicle near Shirlalu. However, it sped off at high speed without stopping.

After suffering a tyre blast near Kervashe, the accused drove the vehicle towards Bajagoli. Unable to drive the vehicle, they fled after ditching the vehicle and the cattle near Mudaru.

The locals, who found the vehicle and cattle, informed the police. The cattle were rescued and the vehicle was seized. A search is on to nab the accused.
