Udupi: Following complaints by Congres workers to the Chief Minister, the Manipal police on Saturday issued a strict warning to the pubs in the city not to operate the businesses beyond permissible hours.

It was alleged that 6 pubs in Manipal were misusing the CL7 license issued by the Tourism Department to illegally operate beyond the permissible hours. During CM Siddaramaiah’s visit to the district on August 1, congress workers had complained that liquor, ganja, and blaring loudspeakers were being used till late at night in these pubs with the support from political leaders.

In this context, police issued a warning to the pubs in Manipal to wind down by 12 am on Weekends. The pubs have been also warned not to use loud DJ music.

Checkposts to curb drunken driving

Manipal police are also taking steps to curb drunken driving. Vehicle check posts will be set up at Collector’s Road, Syndicate Circle and MIT Road. Cases will be registered against anyone found overspeeding or driving under the influence of alcohol, Manipal police inspector said.
