Bengaluru: BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath told the media that the investigation into the fire incident at BBMP office is still under progress. The investigation report will be submitted to the government as soon as it is received, he said.

BBMP Chief Engineer Prahlad is heading the investigation. Corporation officials are also providing assistance, he said.

The inquiry report will be submitted to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. Action will be taken against the culprits based on the findings of the probe, he added.

Elaborating on the safety measures, Girinath said that all kinds of safety measures have been put in place in the laboratory. More precautionary measures are being considered.

Nine employees of the Corporation including the BBMP Chief Engineer who suffered burn injuries are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the Victoria Hospital. Six of them are said to be out of danger. However, the condition of three is critical, he said.

Girinath further said that BBMP will bear the medical expenses of the injured.

Notice to Chief Engineer:

Meanwhile, Halasuru Gate police have issued a notice to BBMP Chief Engineer in connection with the fire incident. Details about the safety measures that were in place and other documents pertaining to the inquiry have been sought.

it is expected that the Chief Engineer will furnish the details on Monday.

It is gathered that the quality control laboratory was functioning in a space that was earlier used as a storage room. There are allegations that the space lacked the proper ventilation and light required for a laboratory to function. Questions have also been raised about how a meeting of officials was being conducted on the spot, while an experiment was being conducted.

3 injured remain critical

Of the 9 injured the condition of Chief Engineer Shivakumar, Executive Engineer Kiran, and Operator Jyoti is critical, doctors at Victoria Hospital said.

The health of Executive Officer Santosh Kumar, Vijayamala, Assistant Executive Officer Sridhar, Project Management Consultant Shrinivas, Computer Operator Manoj, and First Division Assistant Siraj has seen a marked improvement.

However, there is little improvement in the health condition of executive engineer Kiran even after undergoing dialysis for the 3rd time. Nephrology experts are monitoring Kiran’s health. DTP operator Jyothi has also suffered severe burns on her face and has difficulty breathing. Both are undergoing treatment under the care of a team of special doctors in the intensive care unit.
