Udupi: District admin extends tourist visit restrictions till August end

PTI, Aug 16, 2023, 9:34 AM IST

Udupi District Administration has decided to extend the existing restrictions on tourist visits to various popular destinations within the district till the August end.

The initial limitations were put in place after an incident at Arashina Gundi waterfall near Kollur. These measures encompassed the closure of beaches, waterfalls, and other vulnerable tourist spots that pose risks during the rainy season.

Despite a reduction in rainfall across the district, the prohibition remains in effect. The district administration clarified that these restrictions will be there until the end of this month.

“As the rainy season can bring about unpredictable increases in rainfall, rescinding the restrictions prematurely could lead to challenges in swiftly reestablishing control. Therefore, a meeting involving officials from different departments will convene at the end of the month. During this meeting, a decision will be reached regarding the potential lifting of these restrictions,” Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari told “Udayavani.”
