Udupi: Boarders at the post-matric government hostels of the district will be imparted free training for competitive examinations, such as IAS, and KAS examinations through online mode, courtesy of an initiative by the Zilla Panchayat.

A plan is being implemented to hold daily classes from 5 pm to 6 pm to prepare the students of these hostels for the government recruitment examinations.

There are about 10,000 students, who have taken admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, boarding in the 39 post-matric hostels in the district.

Zilla panchayat has signed an agreement with PRIME, an private training institute for this.  Skilled trainers will conduct the classes.

“We have tied up with PRIME Institute to provide competitive exam coaching to hostel students. Registration of interested students is going on. Training will start in two weeks,” said Udupi ZP CEO Prasanna H.

Currently, the registration process for the course is ongoing. Any interested student in these hostels can join the course. The classroom equipment required for the classes has already been provided to the hostels, the officials said.

A similar proposal in Dakshina Kannada:

Meanwhile, in the neighboring Dakshina Kannada district, plans are afoot for a similar initiative. Discussions have been held during the meeting of people’s representatives about providing training for the competitive examinations to the students of post-matric government hostels in the district.

A proposal is also ready in this regard. “We are awaiting a decision about the implementation,” said Dakshina Kannada ZP CEO Dr. Anand.
