In a fervent display of solidarity and determination, a massive protest was organized at Kadri Maidan in Mangalore on Sunday under the leadership of the Sowjanya Horata Samiti. The protest highlighted the unresolved case of the rape and murder of Sowjanya, echoing the sentiments of those seeking justice for the victim. Social activist Mahesh Shetty Timarodi, addressing the crowd, emphasized that their pursuit of justice would not waver and anticipated a brewing revolution in the days ahead.

For over a decade, the activists have been advocating peacefully for justice in the tragic case. Mahesh Shetty Timarodi voiced concerns over the state of humanity and law in the country, expressing deep dismay at the apparent impunity of those responsible for Sowjanya’s heinous crime.

The protesters assert the urgent need for the case to be re-investigated promptly. This call for renewed attention to the case comes in direct response to Home Minister Parameshwar’s statement that the Sowjanya case has concluded. The activists are prepared to escalate their protests, vowing to approach the doorsteps of those in positions of authority to make their voices heard.

Kusumavathi, Sowjanya’s mother, shared her family’s decade-long struggle for justice, expressing a renewed sense of hope as more individuals join their cause. Prasanna Ravi, the convener of the Sowjanya Horata Samiti, urged politicians from all parties to unite and pressure the Chief Minister, Prime Minister, Home Minister, and the President to address the issue seriously. He further suggested the possibility of boycotting elections if justice continues to be elusive.

Prior to the large-scale protest at Kadri Maidan, a march from the Kadri temple to the Maidan took place. The event was inaugurated by Shri Nirmalanathji of Kadri Jogimath, and it saw active participation from various segments of the society.
