An unfortunate incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday as a K.S.R.T.C. bus collided with the iconic statue of General Thimmaiah, situated prominently in the heart of the city. The collision led to the collapse of the statue, raising concerns among the locals and prompting swift response from authorities.

Reports indicate that the bus, en route from the depot to the bus station, veered to avoid a collision with a pick-up vehicle. In the process, it collided with the General Thimmaiah roundabout, resulting in the statue’s untimely downfall. Fortunately, the bus driver and operator escaped with minor injuries.

Following the unfortunate mishap, the statue of General Thimmaiah, a revered figure, has been carefully relocated to the premises of the Thimmaiah Memorial Hall, where it will await assessment and potential restoration.

Virajpet Constituency’s MLA, A.S. Ponnanna, conveyed his heartfelt regret over the incident. Additionally, Ponnanna has assured the public of his commitment to taking all necessary measures to reinstate and restore General Thimmaiah’s statue.
