Police arrested six persons for allegedly stealing expensive sarees from showrooms after posing as customers.
The arrested identified as Sunitha, Shivram Prasad, Venkateswara Rao, Sivakumar, Bharat and Rani are natives of Andhra Pradesh.
The gang would arrive at the showrooms in cars and act like customers. They would ask the staff to show them expensive sarees for upcoming wedding function. As per the police the male members of the gang used to divert the attention of the staff while the women concealed the sarees inside their clothes.
The gang would then select two or three sarees and leave the shop after buying them. They would sell the stolen sarees for a lesser price in Andhra Pradesh and used to share the sale proceeds among themselves.
Their theft came to light after a shop owner noticed the CCTV footage of his showroom and lodged a police complaint.
Police confiscated around 22 sarees, valuing around Rs four lakhs from the possession of the arrested accused.
