Karnataka to introduce State-level board examinations for classes 9 & 11

The Department of School Education and Literacy has issued directives to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) to administer state-level board examinations for students in classes 9 and 11, effective from the current academic year.

Building upon last year’s introduction of assessment tests for students in classes 5 and 8, the government has now extended the summative assessment to encompass class 9 students. Additionally, annual examinations will be conducted for students in class 11. These examinations are slated to be conducted at the school and college levels, with the respective educational institutions serving as examination centers. Notably, question papers will be designed at the state level.

For the 9th-grade summative assessments, KSEAB will be responsible for crafting the question papers, which will subsequently be made available to field education officers through the Karnataka School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Council(KSQUAAC) login system. Similarly, question papers for the 11th grade will be prepared by the Pre-Graduation department and accessed via the District Deputy Director of School Education Department login.

To ensure the smooth conduct of these examinations, nearby school teachers will be appointed as room invigilators for class 9 assessments, while lecturers from the respective colleges will assume this role for the 11th-grade examinations. The summative assessment for 9th graders is proposed to be held at the taluk level.

Crucially, it has been mandated that no student in class 9 can fail these assessments. Moreover, the results will be exclusively communicated to the students and their parents. In the event of a class 11 student failing, supplementary examinations will be organized at the respective college level. Furthermore, the evaluation of the 11th-grade annual examinations will take place within the concerned colleges themselves.
