Chamarajanagar: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called on people to refrain from hosting extravagant weddings financed by borrowing money.

He made these remarks during a mass simple wedding ceremony organized by the Sri Malai Mahadeswaraswamy Kshetra Development Authority on the temple theater grounds.

Siddaramaiah highlighted the heavy burden that lavish weddings place on the poor and the middle class, often resulting in a lifetime of debt. He encouraged the promotion of simple and mass weddings as a more practical and responsible approach.

Mahadeshwara Hill holds immense spiritual significance and serves as a spiritual center for individuals of all castes, particularly Shudras and laborers. Siddaramaiah expressed his deep respect and devotion for this sacred place and noted his role in establishing the Malai Mahadeshwar Development Authority during his tenure as Chief Minister. He also commended the increase in revenue for the authority and credited the Shakti Yojana for attracting more devotees, especially women, to seek blessings at Malai Madeshwara.

The Chief Minister announced a plan to transform the image of the Malai Mahadeshwar Constituency within the next five years. He instructed the authority’s officials to prioritize initiatives related to drinking water and cleanliness.

The program, held in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivaratri Desikendra Mahaswamy, featured Hanur MLA M.R. Manjunath as the presiding officer. Sri Pattada Guruswamy and Sri Shantamallikarjuna Swami were also present at the event, along with Animal Husbandry Minister K. Venkatesh, Social Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, Transport Minister Ramalingareddy, MLAs, and district leaders.
