A private city bus conductor found himself at the center of a dispute that escalated into physical violence on Tuesday evening at Adyar Kannur.
The incident unfolded around 6:15 p.m. when a passenger on the bus, which was en route from State Bank to Kannur, requested the conductor to halt the vehicle just behind the Kannur check post. However, the conductor informed the passenger that the bus would halt at the next designated stop. This exchange of words soon escalated into a verbal altercation, with the passengers eventually resorting to physical assault against the conductor
In the wake of the altercation, a case has been registered with both the bus conductor and the passenger involved filing complaints against each other.
The incident sparked outrage among the bus crew, who organized a protest in Adyarkatte on the following day to condemn the attack, which resulted in the suspension of bus services. Unfortunately, this suspension created difficulties for passengers, highlighting the challenges posed by adherence to strict timing schedules that occasionally hinder buses from stopping at requested stations, as lamented by the operator.
Sharan Pumpwell, the Provincial Coordinator of VHP, visited the injured bus conductor, Yashwant Poojary, who was receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Sharan voiced a demand for stringent action against the individuals responsible for the attack, further emphasizing the need for a swift and effective response to such incidents.
