Kaup: Banyan tree being felled falls on labourers; one dead, two injured

Kaup: A labourer was killed and two others were injured after being pinned under a huge tree in the afternoon hours of Monday, October 2.

The incident occurred at Karandadi of Majoor Village while clearing a huge banyan tree.

The deceased has been identified as Sudhir Panje, a native of Bihar-Jharkhand. The identities of the injured are yet to be ascertained.

The tree, situated on private land,  was being cut down as it was dangerously leaning onto a house. The trunk of the tree reportedly fell on the 3 workers and they were pinned under it. One among them died at the scene. Two labourers were rescued with the help of locals and rushed to a hospital in Udupi.

The work for clearing the debris was ongoing at the time of publishing this news. Kaup police were on the scene and are supervising the clearance operations.

Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kaup S.I. Abdul Khader, and Crime SI Purushottam visited the spot.
