Hindu activist Puneeth Kerehalli, who has been engaged in an 8-day hunger strike to seek clarification on cases filed against him across various police stations in the city, now faces a case of attempted suicide.
Mr. Puneeth Kerehalli had been staging his hunger strike at Independence Park until he was taken into custody by Upparapet police on the October 3. Following his apprehension, he was promptly admitted to Victoria Hospital, where medical professionals have been urging him to halt his fast and nourish himself with food and water. Doctors have underscored the gravity of his situation, cautioning that his life could be in peril if he persists in refusing sustenance.
Undeterred by these warnings, Puneeth Kerehalli remains resolute, vowing to abstain from both food and water until the pending cases against him are clarified. He has adamantly declined medical intervention, expressing indifference to the potential consequences for his own life.
The recent case of attempted suicide against Puneeth Kerehalli stems from a report provided by doctors at Victoria Hospital, who expressed concern about his refusal to consume sustenance.
Notably, Puneeth Kerehalli faces a slew of accusations, including charges of murder, threats, and extortion, and was previously arrested by the CCB Police under the Goonda Act. Following his release from prison, he embarked on the hunger strike as a form of protest against the allegations.
