Udupi: Since the introduction of the Gruha Jyoti Yojana in the state, there have been instances of discrepancies in electricity bills in many places. This has led to numerous incidents of customers protesting after discovering bills that are many times higher than expected. Similarly, a ready-made garment store in Udupi city received an electricity bill amounting to Rs 5 lakhs.

A printed electricity bill of Rs 2,509 has already been issued, with the deadline for payment set on October 15. However, the online payment portal reflects an amount of Rs 5,70,507 (Five Lakh Seventy Thousand Five Hundred Seven). This substantial bill must be settled online within four days. The shop owners claimed that they have been paying via online mode for many years now.

The owners of the ready-made shops were dismayed upon seeing the bill and have called upon Mescom authorities to rectify the error.
