A cyber theft operation targeted an engineer, defrauding him of a staggering sum of Rs 58.83 lakh.
The fraudulent scheme lured the victim, Vishwanath (31) from Nagarbavi, under the pretext of part-time employment opportunities, then manipulated him into investing in online trading.
Vishwanath, an engineer working at a private company, received an unsolicited message regarding a potential part-time job from an unidentified individual via a WhatsApp number. Intrigued by the opportunity, Vishwanath initiated contact with the sender to learn more about it. The stranger, communicating via a Telegram link, allured Vishwanath with promises of doubling his money through various tasks, provided he invested in online trading, with the added promise of receiving commissions.
Subsequently, Vishwanath agreed to participate and invested the sum of Rs 58.83 lakh in various installments into the specified account. The fraudulent operation initially required him to deposit a small commission to their bank account. As the scheme unfolded, Vishwanath was coerced into depositing more funds under the pretext of facilitating the withdrawal of the principal amount.
Growing increasingly suspicious of the situation, Vishwanath sought advice from his acquaintances, only to discover that he had fallen victim to a cybercrime ring. By this time, the cybercriminals had become untraceable, leaving Vishwanath in a precarious financial predicament.
