Navaratri, a Hindu festival spanning nine days, holds great significance in mythology. Each day of the celebration carries its own distinct features. Today marks the inaugural day, dedicated to the worship of Shailaputri, the revered avatar of Maa Durga.

Shailaputri signifies Goddess Parvati, the daughter of the mountain king Himavanta, and is identified as Adishakti. Clad in white attire, she has a fondness for jasmine. In certain regions, there is a tradition of crafting a clay idol for worship.

Devotees believe that by worshiping Shailaputri, they can attain the fruits of “Dharmartha, Kama, Moksha, Chatubhuvidham, Purushartha, Phalava”. Desires are fulfilled, and difficulties vanish. Worship of Shailaputri bestows control over the mind and sense restraint.

Shailaputri’s form not only guides the path of life but also encourages a tranquil demeanor. Her calmness and white attire symbolize devotion and serenity. This color signifies that purity and transparency of body and mind are essential to please God.
