Customs officials at MIA seize 191 gms of gold from Dubai returnees

Mangaluru: Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport on October 17 confiscated and seized 191 grams of 24-carat gold from two air two passengers.

On the basis of profiling by the officers of Mangaluru Customs, two passengers (one male and one female) traveling from Dubai to Mangaluru by Air India Express flight IX 814 were intercepted.

The cheek portion of the male passenger wearing a mask appeared to be abnormal and further checking revealed concealment of two gold cut pieces inside his mouth. Checking of the lady passenger revealed concealment of gold as small rhodium-coated beads in her hair rubber band.

The value of the gold recovered from the two passengers is estimated at Rs 11,44,090.
